In Loving Memory of Craig Hugo (Trombone)
December 17, 1946 - November 25, 2011
Craig Hugo was born in Boulder, Colorado, the son of Ken and Doris Hugo, and grew up in Longmont, Colorado. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973 stationed in Berlin working for the N.S.A. as a German translator. Following his military service, he attended the University of Colorado, graduating with a degree in Music Education, and taught music in the Denver Public Schools for sixteen years.
Craig began playing trombone with Your Father’s Mustache Band in Denver in 1976 and spent the next 35 years with them. In 1977 he met Peggy Lohr and their relationship was filled with love and music from then on. Craig and the Mustache Band played regularly at The Bull & Bush pub in Glendale for many years and they participated in numerous jazz festivals around the U.S. He continued to play his trombone until October 2011. He also loved fishing and golf, and always welcomed company and celebrations. He loved to party!
In his final weeks, Craig was surrounded by family and friends and died peacefully at home the day after Thanksgiving, 2011. His mother Doris preceded him in death, and he is survived by his wife Peggy, Aurora, Colorado; his father Ken
Hugo (and Myrlene), of Sun City, Arizona; brother Tom Hugo (and Donna) of Loveland, Colorado; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews; and lots and lots of fellow musicians and fans. We all loved Craig and we miss him terribly.
